Sponsored by: Department of Land Use and Transportation

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation will reopen Cornelius-Schefflin Road on Monday, February 1, following a seven-month road closure. Cornelius-Schefflin Road was closed to remove the old bridge and replace it with a new bridge. The new bridge is above the 100-year flood elevation and has sufficient width to meet the needs of trucks, autos, farm equipment, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

In addition, Spiesschaert Road, north-east of Cornelius-Schefflin Road was realigned to access Cornelius-Schefflin Road approximately 1/5 mile north of Council Creek (map). The contractor will remove the "old" Spiesschaert Bridge this summer. The project will be completed in June 2010, drivers can expect minor delays or lane closures until then.

This project is being funded by the state's Oregon Transportation Investment Act (OTIA) and the county's Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP). For additional information or inquiries about the closure please contact Bill Hunter, Project Manager at [email protected] or call (503) 846-7800.

Washington County is committed to building and maintaining the best transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the county roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
