For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 08, 2009
Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation must close Cornelius-Schefflin Road at Council Creek, from July 13, 2009 through January 31, 2010, to remove the old bridge and replace it with a new bridge. Signs and a detour route are posted. Access will be maintained to businesses and local traffic (residence, emergency vehicles, mail delivery and school busses) in the area between Holladay Street and Long Road; however, the bridge section will be closed to all traffic (see detour map). Verboort Road, Martin Road and Quince Street will be the primary detour route.
This improvement project will replace the bridge across Council Creek north of the City of Cornelius. The new bridge will be raised above the 100-year flood elevation and span the wetlands while reverting Council Creek to its natural stream width and hydraulic characteristics. The new bridge will include sufficient width to meet the needs of trucks, autos, farm equipment, bicyclists, and pedestrians. This project is being funded by Oregon Transportation Investment Act (OTIA) and Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP).
For additional information or inquiries about the closure please contact Bill Hunter, Project Manager at [email protected]. Or call (503) 846-7800.
Washington County is committed to building and maintaining the best transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the county roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
