For Immediate Release: Wednesday, October 12, 2011
Due to inclement weather and utility relocation delays, the Brookwood Avenue road closure between Main Street/Baseline Road and Golden Road in Hillsboro is being extended through November 18, 2011. The additional 30-day closure will allow the contractor to complete the work tasks impacted by the weather and utility relocation delays. An additional benefit to the 30-day extension is the contractor’s ability to substantially complete all construction activities for the northern portion of the project. Substantial completion includes the base layer of pavement, lane striping, driveway entrances, relocation of mailboxes, installation of safety rails near the realigned curves, and most importantly, completion of sidewalks for pedestrians.
Upon reopening the northern section of Brookwood Avenue on November 18, the contractor will then commence work on the southern section of Brookwood Avenue from Golden Road to TV Highway.
Washington County and the City of Hillsboro recognize the impact of the extended closure and appreciate the community’s patience during the construction of this major arterial project.
Background Information:
This project is widening Brookwood Avenue to three lanes (one lane in each direction and a center lane) and adding bike lanes, sidewalks and streetlights between Main Street/Baseline Road and TV Highway . The road improvements are funded through the Washington County Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP). In partnership with Clean Water Services and the City of Hillsboro, the project is also upgrading the sanitary sewer system. Combining the projects results in overall cost savings.
