Because of Public Works, we have clean running water, effective storm drains and sewers, sturdy roads and bridges, safe building codes, livable communities with parks and green space, and sustainable public facilities.

National Public Works Week is a public education campaign started by the American Public Works Association in 1960 to highlight and celebrate the men and women who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. This year's theme, Because of Public Works, calls attention to the importance of public works in community life.

Washington County and its partners celebrate National Public Works Week with a family-friendly Public Works Fair at Washington Square on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. This year's fair will be held in Sears Court at the south end of the mall and is supported by Washington County, Oregon Department of Transportation, TriMet, Clean Water Services, City of Beaverton Public Works, and the Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation District.

Kids can win prizes and take home fun educational materials. Grownups will find brochures and well-informed public works staff who can answer their questions.

See you at Washington Square!
