Winter weather is expected to cause icy, slippery conditions on the roads and sidewalks Thursday, Friday and possibly Saturday.
Road crews applied anti-icer to the roads in advance of the winter weather and are prepared to remove snow and ice. Travelers are likely to encounter slippery conditions. If you must travel, use care.
Before you travel, look at road conditions on Tripcheck and wc-roads.com. Check weather forecasts and adjust your plans accordingly. Share your travel plans with friends and family, and check in when you arrive. Allow yourself extra time to get to your destination.
Drivers can prepare for icy conditions by making sure fuel tanks are at least half full. Drivers should have traction devices available or on vehicles. Vehicle emergency kits should include blankets, warm clothes and flashlights. If you must drive during winter weather, slow down, increase following distance and brake gently.
Bicyclists and pedestrians should also take precautions. Be visible to motorists with reflectors and lights. Ensure bikes have properly inflated snow tires and that footwear have a good tread, non-slip soles or crampons. Be careful crossing streets, as slippery roads may make it hard for drivers to stop.
Ice may cause public transit delays or cancellations. Check TriMet for service alerts.
