Media release

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 02, 2012

Sponsored by: Department of Land Use and Transportation, Capital Project Services Division

A contractor for Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation will be paving the 119th Avenue and Cornell Road intersection beginning Monday, November 5 and continuing through Tuesday, November 6. Commuters are advised to anticipate long delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Paving work is scheduled to occur between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. both days. During this work, the signal at the intersection will be temporarily turned off and a single lane of traffic will generally remain open on 119th Avenue and Cornell Road; however, delays of 20 minutes or more may be experienced. The public’s patience is greatly appreciated as we finish this important improvement project.

This work is part of a project that added sidewalks to the west side of 119th Avenue between Cornell Road and McDaniel Road and filled in sections of missing sidewalk on the north side of Cornell Road between 119th Avenue and Saltzman Road. Additional improvements included minor street widening on 119th Avenue and the installation of storm drainage facilities.

Washington County is committed to planning, building and maintaining the best transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users, and operating the county roadway system in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
