Leaders from the three Portland-area Metro counties on Wednesday, May 4, for the first time jointly released numbers from their federally required counts of people experiencing homelessness.

Washington County’s Emergency Rental Assistance program has reached capacity and will cease taking applications beginning May 6th to ensure current pending applications are processed.

187 Beds extended for several more weeks to provide shelter for medically fragile individuals, families and people experiencing homelessness

Expanded shelter capacity in Hillsboro and Beaverton to remain open until further notice. Washington County has activated severe weather shelters to provide expanded emergency shelter capacity during frigid temperatures. The shelters will remain open until conditions improve.

Elected officials and leaders from state and local government joined affordable housing developer, Related Northwest, to mark the commencement of construction of Terrace Glen Apartments, a 144-unit affordable, intergenerational development.

To address the homelessness crisis, worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) developed the House America initiative. House America is a federal effort to decrease homelessness by re-housing families and individuals into stable, affordable housing and by creating new units of affordable and supportive housing to serve people experiencing homelessness.

Due to dangerous conditions, Washington County has activated inclement weather shelters that will open their doors to anyone seeking shelter through the winter weather event. These beds supplement the Winter Shelter program which provides 187 shelter beds from November 15, 2021 to March 15, 2021 for individuals, families, and medically fragile adults. Unhoused people seeking shelter should present in person at the locations listed below:
