Virtual Ribbon-Cutting held for The Fields Affordable Housing Project
A new affordable housing project in Tigard officially opened its doors with a physically distanced ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 9, 2020. All of the 264 units in The Fields Apartments on S.W. Hunziker Street in Tigard, are available for members of our community making at or below 60 percent of our area’s median income, which is $55,260 for a family of four in Washington County. There are 132 one-bedroom units, 100 two-bedroom units, and 32 three-bedroom units. All will be dedicated to households working in lower-wage jobs who otherwise cannot afford to live in the area. The Fields Apartments' rental rates will be approximately 27 percent less than the market for units of similar quality and style.
“A grand opening ribbon-cutting marks a new beginning, and with the opening of “The Fields” this can be a new beginning for those seeking affordable housing right here in Tigard,” said Chair of the Washington County Board of Commissioners, Kathryn Harrington. “This project is a great example of how a creative public-private partnership can answer the need for affordable housing options, helping us create a vibrant community. I want to thank DBG Properties LLC., Oregon Housing & Community Services, and the city of Tigard, for making this project come to life and contributing to our goal of having more affordable housing options available in Washington County for our most-vulnerable community members. We know that living solutions, such as the Fields Apartments, are the key to ensuring everyone one in our community has a place to call home.”
The goal of this project is to increase the availability of regulated affordable housing in the county. The rent is regulated annually by Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) as a primary funder of the project, to be sure the rental rates stay affordable for those in lower-wage jobs.
The Housing Authority of Washington County (HAWC) worked on this $63.8 million project with DBG Properties, LLC, an established private developer of affordable housing based in Portland, and several partner agencies. The project received $9.8 million in funding from the Oregon Housing and Community Services LIFT Rental Housing Program, and $22.2 million in equity from the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Program, administered by Oregon Housing and Community Services.
