Housing Choice Voucher Program Waitlist Opening July 26, 2021
The Housing Authority of Washington County (HAWC) will accept applications for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, formally Section 8, between July 26 and August 4, 2021. HAWC is funded through the Federal office of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and administers several housing assistance programs that can help low-income households secure decent, safe and affordable housing in Washington County. HCV is HAWC's largest housing assistance program. This program assists families earning less than 50% of area median income, which amounts to approximately $48,350 for a family of four. In the HCV program, participating families pay about 30% of their income towards their housing costs, and the Housing Authority pays the rest. The Housing Authority receives enough funding to serve about 3,000 households.
HAWC will accept applications for its HCV waitlists beginning at 8:00 am on Monday, July 26, 2021 and ending at 11:59pm on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. Applications will not be prioritized by date, and people may apply at any time during the opening.
A random lottery will be used to select 2,000 households for the HCV waitlist. Only one application per household will be accepted. Duplicate applications will be removed before the lottery. All applications received during the waitlist opening will have an equal chance of being added to a waitlist.
Applications can be submitted online at https://portal.wchousingauthority.org/ between July 26 and August 4, 2021. Households that are already on the waitlist do not need to re-apply. HAWC will exhaust the current waitlist before selecting clients who submit a new application.
All Washington County library locations have computers with internet access available for public. Due to ongoing changes in Washington County's COVID risk status, please check with your local library for the latest information on services and access. Information on library hours and locations is available online at www.wccls.org. In addition, HAWC staff will be available to answer questions and provide assistance in submitting online applications. Applicants unable to submit an application online should contact HAWC and a staff member will take the application over the phone.
