TUALATIN, Ore. – In tribute to the late Doug Plambeck, a dedicated champion of affordable housing, a new income-limited housing community named in his honor will open. Local elected officials and project partners will join his family tomorrow in Southeast Tualatin for the grand opening of Plambeck Gardens.

Community Partners for Affordable Housing(Link is external), a nonprofit in which Plambeck was a founding member, is the developer of the site that spans 4.66 acres in the Basalt Creek area and features a community center, green spaces, communal gardens and a playground. With homes ranging from one to four bedrooms, the development is well-suited to support low-income families in need of stable, quality housing.

Forty percent of the homes are deeply affordable, reserved for households earning 0% to 30% of the area median income. Sixteen of these units include rent assistance and comprehensive support services for vulnerable residents. The remaining 69 apartments are available to households earning up to 60% of the area median income, which is $70,800 for a family of four.

The project was made possible through a combination of public and private funding, including $14.7 million from the voter-approved Metro affordable housing bond, as awarded by Washington County.

Community Action, Lifeworks NW, Centro Cultural, Worksystems, Inc., and Neighborhood Health Center will offer resident support including culturally responsive services and assistance in areas such as employment and health.

“Doug Plambeck would be deeply humbled to see his name honored in these beautiful homes, built right here in his community,” said Metro Councilor Gerritt Rosenthal. “I had the privilege of knowing Doug and witnessing his unwavering passion for making affordable housing accessible to all. Plambeck Gardens embodies that vision — welcoming, inclusive and designed to serve a diverse range of residents. This project stands as a fitting tribute to Doug’s lasting legacy.”

“When I was at this project's groundbreaking less than two years ago, I spoke of our need to work together to build a better future. Today, a part of that future is here in Tualatin with the opening of Plambeck Gardens,” Washington County Chair Kathryn Harrington said. “Thanks to our spirit of collaboration, and the community's support, 116 more families now have an affordable place to call home."
