Washington County is committed to maintaining a safe and secure elections process for all voters and election workers

Given the recent arson attacks made on ballot boxes outside of Washington County, Elections Officials want voters to rest assured that returning their ballots to an official drop site is still safe and secure.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation and are maintaining active communication with local law enforcement and federal partners. We know of no ballot boxes in Washington County that have been damaged or affected by these incidents,” said Dan Forester, Washington County elections manager.

Thanks to a federal grant Washington County received earlier this year, the Elections Office has been able to replace old drop boxes with new ones that are bigger and more secure. According to Forester, “these ballot boxes are state-of-the-art. They’re equipped with fire suppressant devices and improved locking mechanisms.”

Washington County has 21 official ballot drop sites available now until 8 p.m. on Election Day where voters can return their ballots. A list of official ballot drop sites is available at WashCoVotes.org and below. Voters who are concerned by recent events are welcome to return their ballotby mail via the United States Postal Service. If members of the public see any suspicious activity around any ballot box, call 503-629-0111 immediately.
