New snow zone created in Washington County

We have posted a new snow zone on Grabhorn Road ahead of winter weather.
Media release

A new snow zone has been created on Grabhorn Road, between Farmington and Tile Flat roads. This is the fourth snow zone in Washington County. Three other snow zones have been in place since winter 2017-18.

Grabhorn Road was the site of numerous winter weather-related crashes and abandoned vehicles in early 2023. Abandoned vehicles prevent crews from sanding and plowing County Roadsroads.

Chains or snow tires are required in snow zones when weather conditions mean vehicles without traction devices are more likely to be involved in traffic crashes or have difficulty driving on slick surfaces. Flashing lights on snow zone signs indicate when the snow zone is active.

All County snow zones have high elevations and steep grades. The snow zones are:

  • 175th Avenue, between Scholls Ferry and Rigert roads
  • Barnes Road, from 118th Avenue east to the County line, adjacent to a city of Portland snow zone
  • Cornell Road, from Cedar Hills Boulevard east to the County line
  • Grabhorn Road, between Farmington and Tile Flat roads

Notifications of active snow zones will also be posted to wc-roads.com, TripCheck.com, Twitter, Facebook, Nextdoor and the County website.
