Voter Assistance

The mission of the Voter Assistance Team is to minimize barriers to participating in elections through education, outreach, and assistance to Washington County voters.

Our goal is to provide the opportunity for all voters in Oregon to vote as privately and independently as possible.

Interpretive Services

The Elections Division has interpretation and translation resources available to voters who would like assistance in a language other than English. We have in-person Spanish interpretation available whenever our office is open, as well as telephone interpretation for many other languages. Call or visit our office to receive assistance in a language other than English.

Voters with Disabilities

The Election Division has staff to provide assistance to voters with disabilities. The assistance provided could include reading the ballot to the voter, reading the Voters' Pamphlet to the voter, or helping the voter to mark their ballot. We are able to schedule visits to assisted living facilities, community centers, and voters' homes, and can also offer assistance to voters in our office.

If you would like assistance with your ballot contact the Elections Division to make an appointment. Please make an appointment early in the election cycle because the last few days before Election Day are typically busy. Even if you are unable to make an appointment in advance, please contact our office or visit us in person. We will do our best to provide any assistance that you require.

Alternate Format Ballots (AFB)

For voters unable to use a standard ballot the Elections Division offers Alternate Format Ballots (AFB). The AFB lets voters with disabilities (e.g. vision impairment) vote privately and independently at home.

We offer two types of Alternate Format Ballots (AFB):

  1. Online Ballot Marking Tool
Voters access the Online Ballot Marking Tool through the Secretary of State’s MyVote page . Please note that you will still need to print out your ballot and return it in the official signature return envelope provided to you by the county.
  2. Large Print Ballot
The Large Print Ballot for those who have visual difficulties reading the print on a standard ballot. To request a large print ballot, please call our office at 503-846-5800 or email us at [email protected].

Attestation Forms

If a voter has difficulty signing their ballot because of a temporary or permanent situation, there is the option of completing a SEL540 Signature Attestation Form. The SEL540 Signature Attestation Form allows voters to use a signature stamp or any other signature indication mark to represent the voter's signature.

When submitting a SEL540 Signature Attestation Form please complete a new SEL500 Voter Registration form, with voters new mark. For more information about the Attestation form please contact the Elections Division.
