Dan Forester has been appointed as Washington County’s new elections division manager following Mickie Kawai’s retirement after 34 years of service. Washington County Assessment and Taxation Director Joe Nelson welcomed Dan Forester as new Elections Division Manager beginning June 27th, 2022.

Forester brings eight years of experience working at the Multnomah County Elections Division across several work areas. His most recent experience has been as a project manager where he led multiple efforts including managing the elections division calendar and ensuring ballot tabulation accuracy – from design and testing to scanning and adjudication.

Forester also served as an election system specialist, managing customer service inquiries, data entry and overseeing signature verification staff accuracy as well as the voter registration and election management database. In his first role at Multnomah County Elections Division as a mail ballot specialist, Forester managed the production of mail ballot envelope packets, all matters pertaining to the U.S. Postal Service, and archiving.

“I am confident in Dan’s leadership and with his extensive elections experience and knowledge, that he will continue to uphold the integrity, security and privacy of each election cycle for our thousands of Washington County voters,” said Assessment and Taxation Director Joe Nelson. “I would also like to congratulate Mickie Kawai for her retirement and successful history in making changes instrumental to the elections process we are so passionate about.”

Forester went to the University of Minnesota-Morris and moved to Oregon in 2000. Before his career in Elections, he spent 15 years in the magazine publishing industry, managing circulation systems and marketing.
