Review of Full Ballot Reveals Additional Corrections for Judge Positions
In the course of reviewing all the procedural steps that led to a printing error for a circuit judge position on Washington County ballots for the primary election on May 18, 2010, elections officials discovered additional judge positions that were mislabeled.
As previously announced, printed ballots list the Judge of the Circuit Court 20th District as Position 2 when in fact it is for Position 1. The new corrections are as follows:
- the Judge of the Circuit Court 20th District Position 5 should be Position 8;
- the Judge of the Circuit Court 20th District Position 9 should be Position 10;
- the Judge of the Court of Appeals Position 6 should be Position 3.
All positions have only one incumbent candidate on the ballot. As certified by the Oregon Secretary of State's Office, the candidate for Judge of the Circuit Court for Position 1 is Thomas W. Kohl, the candidate for Circuit Court Position 8 is Gayle A. Nachtigal, the candidate for Circuit Court Position 10 is Suzanne Upton, and the candidate for Judge of the Court of Appeals Position 3 is Darleen Ortega.
Despite these printing errors, all ballots are valid. If a voter casts a ballot in the election for these judge positions, their vote will count.
Elections officials have reviewed the process and have made corrections to ensure that these printing errors do not occur in the future.
