The flood gates at Fern Hill and Susbauer roads are closed due to high water. All travelers must use alternate routes.

Fern Hill is closed between Taylor Way and Geiger Road. Susbauer is closed between Long and Hornecker roads. Both roads frequently flood during periods of heavy rain.

Do not drive, bike or walk around the gates. Avoid travel on any road covered by water. It takes only 6 inches of moving water to carry away an adult and 12 inches of water to carry away a small car. Turn around, don't drown.

It is illegal for drivers, pedestrians or bicyclists to move or travel around road-closure barricades. Violations carry fines of $265. To report someone moving or traveling around a barricade, call the Washington County Sheriff's Office nonemergency dispatch at 503-629-0111.

To request help or report a road hazard:

  • Call 911 (emergency).
  • Call 503-629-0111 (after hours, non-emergency).
  • Call 503-846-ROAD (503-846-7623) during business hours or email.
  • Submit an online request for non-emergency road service.

Washington County is committed to planning, building and maintaining a great transportation system, ensuring the safety of all roadway users and operating the County roadway system in cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner.
