Washington County Risk Manager Receives RIMS Appointment


Washington County's Risk Manager, Eva LaBonte, was recently selected to serve on the Risk and Insurance Management Society's (RIMS) Standards and Practices Council. RIMS is a not-for-profit organization representing more than 3,500 corporate, industrial, service, nonprofit, charitable and government entities throughout the world. The council maintains a focus on creation, support, coordination, leadership and promotion of national and international standards, best practices, research projects and articles pertaining to the risk management discipline. LaBonte begins her term in January, 2017.


LaBonte has led the County's Risk Management team since November of 2015. After starting her career in the Washington County Jail Medical Office and in Support Services, she worked for nearly 20 years in the public sector, holding various positions at both Clean Water Services and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue. Immediately preceding her return to the County, she worked for several years at Beaverton-based Nike, Inc. During her tenure at Nike, she held the position of Workers' Compensation Program Manager, managing claims around the world as well as environmental safety and health, loss prevention and risk management. LaBonte holds a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Business Management and Psychology from Pacific University, and a Master of Science in Industrial/Organizational Development from Portland State University.

Washington County Risk Management works to cost-effectively protect the people, property and finances of Washington County. Their primary focus includes insurance administration, safety and loss control, and claims administration. LaBonte and her team work to ensure the County's ability to avoid and recover quickly from accidental loss and provide technical assistance and support to departments for compliance with federal, state and county safety regulations. They also investigate, evaluate and resolve liability, property damage and workers compensation claims.
