Portland author, Ursula K. Le Guin to Speak at Local Summer Reading Kick-off

Garden Home and West Slope Libraries co-host acclaimed Author and Poet
May 30th required tickets for the event become available at both Libraries

Washington County, Oregon: Local author and poet, Ursula K. Le Guin, will speak at the Garden Home Recreation Center (7475 SW Oleson Road, Portland, 97223) on Saturday, June 13 at 2:30 p.m. to kick-off the Adult Summer Reading program for the Garden Home and West Slope Community Libraries.

Will Worthey, Director of the Garden Home Community Library shared, “we are so excited to have Ursula Le Guin visit our library. She was awarded the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters and delighted fans with her frank speech. She has assured me that she will be speaking plainly once again for our library event on June 13th and we could not be more honored!”

A multiple Hugo and Nebula award winner, Ursula K. Le Guin has written books for adults as well as children and received love and recognition from readers all over the world.

Although free, tickets are REQUIRED to attend this event. Due to a limited supply all tickets will be available only on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved by phone. Limit 2 tickets per person. Tickets are available at the West Slope Community Library during open hours. Or you may visit Garden Home Community Library at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 30th when they will give away tickets to those in attendance.

Garden Home and West Slope Community Libraries are members of the Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) and will be participating in the countywide summer reading program for adults, #WCCLSReads (www.wccls.org/asrp). This is the second time these two WCCLS member libraries have collaborated on an event, having previously brought local playwright, Cindy Williams Gutierrez to speak about her play Words That Burn.

The Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS), includes the: Banks Public Library, Beaverton City Library, Beaverton City Library @ Murray Scholls, Cedar Mill Community Library, Cedar Mill Community Library @ Bethany, Cornelius Public Library, Forest Grove City Library, Garden Home Community Library, Hillsboro Public Libraries (Main and Shute Park), North Plains Public Library, Sherwood Public Library, Tigard Public Library, Tualatin Public Library, and West Slope Community Library.
