The Washington County Local Emergency Planning Committee will hold a meeting on March 19 for the public to review and comment on the countywide Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Plan.
Media release

A public meeting of the Washington County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) will be held virtually and in-person on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 3-4:30 p.m. Community members are invited to attend and provide input on the County’s Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Plan.

The meeting will be held at the Washington Street Conference Center, 102 SW Washington Street, in Hillsboro. A virtual meeting option will be provided on MS Teams. Information about the meeting is also available on the Emergency Management Cooperative’s Events Page under Local Emergency Planning Committee.

Hazardous materials are present throughout our community, in business, industry and agriculture, on our roads and railways and in our homes. These industries are subject to regulations designed to minimize spill risks. Even so, unplanned releases can occur at any time and may be caused by other incidents such as fires, floods and earthquakes. The County’s Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Plan describes how responders will work together to identify releases, protect health and safety, limit and stop a release and carry out other emergency actions.

How to provide input
Each year, the LEPC reviews and makes necessary updates to the plan, which includes feedback from the wider community. The Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Plan is available online for review and the public can provide feedback in these ways:

  1. Attend the LEPC meeting in-person on March 19
  2. Join the LEPC meeting online on March 19
  3. Send an email to [email protected]
  4. Call Washington County Emergency Management at 503-846-7575
