UPDATE as of July 23, 2024: All Washington County technology networks and systems were restored late on Friday, July 19, in response to a global outage from a failed security update by a third-party vendor. Although some laptops and other devices remain to be safely updated this week, no Washington County services to the community are currently impaired as a result. We thank everyone for their patience during this outage event.
Original News Article: A failed update from a third-party vendor to parts of our technology environment has resulted in outages worldwide, including some systems used by Washington County. Our Department of Information Technology Services has been working on addressing these issues throughout the morning and has made progress on several high-priority systems. By all accounts this outage was NOT a cyberattack but simply a failed attempt by a third-party at updating critical software.
As Washington County continues to recover from the outage, the availability of some services may be affected. Although our usual hours of operation for Washington County buildings have not changed, please use email to contact departments and offices if you have any questions regarding the availability of services.
We appreciate the patience and flexibility of the public as we address today’s information technology challenges.
