Volunteer Orientation for Those Interested in Helping Seniors

Washington County Disability, Aging & Veteran Services is recruiting volunteers for a variety of programs to support older adults in Washington and Columbia counties.

A volunteer information and orientation session will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 1:30-3:30 p.m., at the Washington Street Conference Center located at 102 Washington Street in Hillsboro (first floor of parking structure).

The session will cover the following volunteer opportunities:
  • Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA): Provide one-on-one confidential and objective health insurance information and assistance to people with Medicare.
  • Benefits Enrollment Center (BEC): Assist low-income clients with identifying and applying for possible benefits.
  • Project REACH (Ready to Extend a Caring Hand): Assist isolated and vulnerable seniors in accessing and navigating resources to remain independent.
  • Money Management: Help low-income clients with basic household financial tasks and/or manage their funds with client input.
  • Gatekeeper: Provide training to community members to identify vulnerable seniors or people with disabilities to connect them to services and programs.
