Veterans Benefits and Job Fair at Willow Creek
Veterans and their families needing assistance are invited to attend a Veterans Benefits and Job Fair at the Willow Creek Center from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday, September 28th. Washington County Disability, Aging & Veteran Services, WorkSource Employment Beaverton, and the Western Washington County Employer's Council are coordinating the hosted event.
Veterans are unemployed in higher-than-average numbers locally and statewide, with more than 20 percent of veterans younger than 35 without jobs. The lack of jobs puts veterans at risk of becoming homeless quicker than veterans of any other era. It is estimated by the Department of Veterans Affairs that Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are becoming homeless within three years, compared with 13 years for Vietnam-era veterans.
The Veterans Administration and many other governmental, community-based agencies, and employers will be attending and providing a host of services and information which will include health screenings, job opportunities and the chance to register with the VA for medical care and other benefits.
Eric Belt, Veterans Service Supervisor for Washington County states that, "The Willow Creek Center was chosen as the site because of its central location within the County and access to transportation services provides an opportunity to reach as many veterans and their families as possible."
