Volunteer Opportunity to Assist Washington County Veteran Services

Veteran Services of Washington County is looking for two volunteers able to contribute 5 hours of time a week to help old paper files become electronic data.

The agency is part of the County's Department of Health and Human Services. The Service Coordinators who work there help returning veterans and their families to receive all the benefits promised them when they went into the military. All services are free. The department will be helping as many as 1,500 veterans with their benefits at any time.

"Helping all those veterans takes a lot of paperwork. We want to put it into electronic format to serve our veterans more efficiently. That's where volunteers could be a great help," says Doug MacEllven, Veteran Services Supervisor. The office has the software and a scanner to do the work. MacEllven will offer training to anyone who can offer their time.

The volunteer needs to be someone who can maintain confidentiality and work with a minimum of supervision after being trained.
