Simantel named HHS assistant director

Mjere Simantel has been named assistant director of Washington County Health and Human Services.

Mjere Simantel has been named assistant director of Washington County Health and Human Services (HHS).

Simantel is currently the supervisor for Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services, a division of HHS. She has held that position since January 2017.

Prior to joining Washington County, Simantel spent nearly eight years at Willamette View, a continuing care retirement community located in Portland, ultimately serving in the role of health care services administrator. She also spent several years with Clackamas Education Service District in various roles.

“Mjere embodies our department’s core values such as equity, accountability, cultural transparency and collaboration,” says HHS Director Marni Kuyl. “With her on board in this new position, I’m confident we will make great strides toward our vision of Washington County as a healthy, equitable and supportive community.”

Simantel earned a bachelor’s degree in social science from Portland State University and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan.

Her first day in the new position will be November 19.

Washington County Health and Human Services cares about people, animals and the environment. Divisions include Public Health, Human Services, Animal Services, Solid Waste & Recycling, Disability, Aging and Veteran Services, and Children, Youth and Families.
