What would a pet’s dream holiday home look like? Creative people can share their vision!
The Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter is holding its second annual Gingerbread Dog House Contest. Pet-themed gingerbread or decorated cake creations are eligible for the contest. Complete contest details are available at www.washingtoncountypets.com or by calling Jennifer Keene at 503-846-7141.
Entries must be delivered on Sunday, December 15, between 10:00-11:00 a.m., to the Cedar Hills Crossing interior mall area at 3205 SW Cedar Hills Boulevard in Beaverton. There is a suggested $10 donation to the shelter with each entry.
Display space is limited. Interested participants are encouraged to pre-register by December 6 to secure a spot.
The theme for 2013 is "Home for the Holidays." This could be the home where an animal will spend the holidays, their fantasy holiday destination, mode of transportation to get there, or anything in between. Judging categories are youth (12 & under), teens (13-19), adults (20 & over), pet business/organization, culinary students and culinary professionals.
Entries will be available to the public for up-close viewing from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on December 15, with the winners announced at 3:30 p.m. A People's Choice Award will also be given to the house that receives the most donations between 11:00-3:00. A selection of entries will be on display inside the mall for the rest of December.
Donations from the contest will help the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter care for the animals that are dreaming of their homes.
The Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter (along with Washington County Animal Services) cares for lost animals, finds homes for abandoned pets, licenses dogs, enforces animal cruelty laws, and more. The Bonnie L. Hays shelter is located at 1901 SE 24th Avenue in Hillsboro. It’s just off the Tualatin Valley Highway by Lowe’s and Home Depot.
