The Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter’s new summer event is called Paws on the Plaza. Just like Dogs on Parade in the past, the event will take place during the Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market, this year on July 23, 5:30 – 8 p.m., by the fountain in downtown Hillsboro.

The event retains the popular contests such as Best Trick, Best Costume, Littlest Dog, Biggest Dog and Best Dog/Owner Look-alike, starting at 7 p.m. It will also offer some exciting new features that will help the community and serve the shelter’s mission, such as a “Check Your Chip” booth, where owners can get their dogs scanned to make sure their microchip still works and learn how to update the contact information if needed. There will also be a raffle and a dog licensing booth.

“We are excited to meet people and their dogs while raising awareness about the importance of microchipping and dog licensing,” says Jennifer Keene, animal behavior and outreach coordinator for Bonnie Hays. “We also hope people will stop by to purchase raffle tickets to benefit the animals at the shelter.” Raffle prizes were donated by local businesses and include a doggie massage, pet supply store gift card, a doggie spa day, pet boarding, free microchip, museum passes and more.

All are welcome – with or without dogs – at this family-friendly event. For more information, visit www.WashingtonCountyPets.com and click the “Paws on the Plaza” graphic or call 503-846-7041.
