The Washington County Family Caregiver Support Program has issued a call for presentations for the 2019 Family Caregiver Conference.

Now in its 17th year, the annual Family Caregiver Conference will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Tuality Health Education Center in Hillsboro. The Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services Family Caregiver Support Program co-sponsors the conference in partnership with Tuality Healthcare and the Veterans Affairs Portland Caregiver Support program.

More than 100 family caregivers attend the conference every year, all of whom are unpaid and providing care to a spouse, relative or friend. The focus of the conference is on the needs of family caregivers caring for older adults. The aim is to provide a safe and welcoming space for caregivers to come together to connect with one another, learn new skills, and find valuable community resources through the more than 25 vendors who also attend each year.

This year’s theme is “Connecting Through Caregiving: Honoring Every Family Caregiver’s Voice,” which recognizes every person’s unique story and reminds participants they are not alone on their journey.

Past workshop topics have included legal considerations for caregivers, sexuality and dementia, advocating for the person in your care, paying for long-term care when funds are limited, and maintaining a loving relationship while meeting the challenges of caregiving.

Individuals with personal or professional experience and knowledge around caregiving issues are invited to submit a proposal to lead a workshop at this year’s conference. Applications are due by July 15, 2019. Fill out the application online at www.co.washington.or.us/HHS/DAVS or call Shannon Baggerman at 503-846-3090 to request one or for more information.
