New website provides detailed health data for Washington County

Washington County Health and Human Services (HHS) recently launched a new website called Healthier Together Storyboard. Powered by LiveStories, the website is meant to provide a portrait of community health in Washington County and can be found at www.HealthierTogetherWashingtonCounty.com.

HHS acknowledges that generations-long social, racial, economic and environmental inequities result in negative health outcomes. These inequities affect communities differently and have a greater influence on health outcomes than individual choices or access to health care. Reducing health disparities through policies, practices and organizational systems will improve opportunities for all Washington County community members.

“Developing the Healthier Together website is an important step toward our department’s vision of a healthy, equitable and supportive community,” says Public Health Division Manager Tricia Mortell. “The better we are at collecting, sharing and analyzing health data, the better we can serve our community, particularly our most vulnerable members.”

The website is meant for the community at large, but also specifically to serve as a resource for Washington County community organizations in their grant applications, as it provides a wide range of population data, which is often required by funders.

“We appreciate that this new website makes community health data accessible and sheds light on why some communities experience poorer health and health outcomes,” says Tuality Healthcare Infection Preventionist Kristine Rabii, vice-chair of Washington County’s Public Health Advisory Council.

Website visitors will find data on chronic conditions, health behaviors, communicable disease, air quality and other environmental factors, addiction, older adult health, children and youth, and much more.

“Data is at the heart of what we do in HHS,” says HHS Director Marni Kuyl. “We use it to understand health issues and disparities, create new programming and use resources wisely. We are confident this website will help us use and share data more effectively.”
