May is both Mental Health Awareness Month as well as Older Americans Month. In recognition of these two themes, Washington County Mental Health and Disability, Aging and Veteran Services are hosting a special event with master storyteller Paul Iarrobino.
Mr. Iarrobino will be joined by three older adult storytellers who will share their accounts of resilience. The event takes place Tuesday, May 30, 1:30–3 p.m., at the main Beaverton City Library at 12375 SW 5th Street.
The theme for this year’s Older Americans Month is “Age Out Loud” and shines a light on important trends. More than ever before, older Americans are working longer, trying new things and engaging in their communities. They are taking charge, striving for wellness, focusing on independence and advocating for themselves and others.
“I find that being resilient and feeling relevant has changed as I transitioned from full-time employment to starting my own business in my 50s,” says Iarrobino. “I am excited to have a dedicated place for us to share personal experiences and openly explore this topic in a supportive environment.”
Mr. Iarrobino regularly performs his craft at community events and incorporates stories when giving keynote addresses or presentations. He inspires new storytellers by teaching and mentoring small groups. As a coach, Paul helps individuals harness their inner strengths to remove barriers, improve key areas of their life, and rediscover their drive and purpose.
All are welcome at the storytelling event. Refreshments will be provided. RSVPs are requested by calling 503-846-3056.
