Media release

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 01, 2009

Sponsored by: Health and Human Services Department, Animal Services Division

Strut the streets with your dog and show off your faithful companion's best costume at the Fourth Annual Dogs on Parade on Tuesday, July 14, in Hillsboro. Join Washington County Animal Services & Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter at the City of Hillsboro Civic Center Plaza, 150 S. Main, Hillsboro, where dogs and walkers will assemble at 6:45 p.m. for the parade that starts at 7 p.m.

Following the parade that winds around historic downtown Hillsboro, linger a while in the plaza for more fun. Enter to win one of the five dog and owner contests: Best Dog Vocalist, Best Dog Trick, Best Dog and Owner Look-Alike, Biggest Dog, and of course, Best Costume. Prizes will be awarded to the top winner in each category.

Kimberly Maus from FOX 12 Oregon will emcee this fourth annual community event. The Hillsboro Police Department's Safety Pup will grand marshal the parade. Safety Pup, Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter staff, and volunteers will also be available to lend a "paw" by sharing information with children on dog and animal safety and humane care. Plus, there will be giveaways for the first 100 dogs and walkers.

The suggested $1 donation is a family-friendly benefit for the dogs and cats at the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter.
