Dogs on Parade in Downtown Hillsboro on July 24

Dogs on Parade, an annual community event hosted by the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter, takes place July 24 during the Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market at the Hillsboro Civic Center plaza.

New hours starting week of April 21!

Starting the week of April 21, the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter will be open to the public Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for walk-in services. Phone service will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on those same days.

With our current staffing levels, we can only provide service to the public five days a week. We decided to close on Saturdays after determining that we receive noticeably fewer calls and visits on Saturdays than on weekdays. As always, we will continue providing care to pets at the shelter seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Remember, you can visit our website at any time to report a lost or found animal, view stray pets at the shelter, license your dog online, and more.

Dogs on Parade, an annual community event hosted by the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter, takes place July 24 during the Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market at the Hillsboro Civic Center plaza. Kim Maus with KPTV Fox 12 will serve as the emcee.

Schedule of events:

5:30 p.m. — Entertainment, including a demonstration by Mt. Wave K9 Search & Rescue and a canine musical freestyle performance from Dogs Gone Dancing.

7 p.m. — Dogs on Parade, a short walk through the market. Great fun to watch for those without a dog to parade with.

7:30 p.m. — Contests include Best Trick, Best Costume, Dog / Owner Look Alike, Biggest Dog and Littlest Dog (over one year). Pet-themed prizes from Frontier Veterinary Hospital, Pup-A-Razzi, Hot Diggity Pet Sitting and more.

Pre-registration is not necessary. Participants can stop by the shelter’s table starting at 5 p.m.

There is a suggested $5 donation per dog, which will go directly toward helping animals at the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter. “Nobody will be turned away for lack of funds,” says Animal Behavior and Outreach Coordinator Jen Keene. “This is a community event, and all are welcome!”
