Did you know that approximately 60% of seniors, veterans and persons with disabilities are not receiving the benefits they are entitled to?

Would you like to be the person that ensures that everyone receives what they deserve?

Washington County Disability, Aging and Veterans' Services is looking for volunteers to fill two positions in our Benefits Enrollment Center.

Office Benefit Specialist:

  • Based in our Hillsboro office
  • Computer literate – web use and data entry
  • Have own transportation or access to public transportation
  • Dependable, patient and compassionate
  • Superior telephone manner and communication abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ensure data is accurately entered into database

Community Benefits Specialist:

  • Meet clients in community i.e. client homes, senior centers, coffee shops, etc.
  • Computer literate – Web use and data entry
  • Must have own transportation
  • Dependable, patient and compassionate
  • Good communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Understand systems and processes
  • Ability to decipher large bodies of information and summarize to client
  • Complete forms and applications for clients
  • Problem solving skills to navigate online and paper applications
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Duties:

  • Work one-on-one with client either in-person or over the telephone (Both positions)
  • Receive telephone calls and enter information into database to determine service needs (Office Benefit Specialist)
  • Work one-on-one with clients (Both positions)
  • Share information with senior, veteran and/or family caregiver about community services available (Both positions)
  • Ensure that data is accurately entered into the client database and/or on application forms. (Both positions)
  • Background check required for both positions

Estimated Time Involved:
Two to three days per week for three to four hours per day. Days and hours are flexible.

Outcome:
The goal of this position is to reach out to seniors, veterans, persons with disabilities, and/or family caregivers and help them access services that meet their needs. These services enable them to live independently and with dignity.
