Are you a good listener?Do people feel like they can confide in you? Do you love to help people? Are you good at researching and finding out about resources?Then this opportunity may be for you!

We are looking for some volunteers to fill this special role as an Information and Referral Volunteer Specialist in each of our senior centers. We are recruiting volunteers for the following centers:

  • North Plains Senior Center
  • Sherwood Senior Center
  • Tigard Senior Center
  • Tualatin/Durham Senior Center

In this role, you will perform the following duties:

  • Work one-on-one with senior and/or family caregivers to identify needs
  • Share information with senior and/or family caregivers about community services available to meet their needs
  • Assist with making telephone calls if necessary
  • Ensure that data is accurately entered into the client database in a timely manner
  • Follow up to make sure senior or family caregiver receives the services needed

Skills Needed:

  • Dependability, patience and compassion
  • Desire to learn about community services
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work well independently and be part of a team
  • Working knowledge of Office 2000, Excel, Word, internet and email preferable
  • Superior telephone manner and communication abilities
  • Ability to work unsupervised most of the time

Estimated Time Involved:

Two to three days per week during the busy meal times (10am-1:00pm) including the hour before lunch, the lunch hour and the hour after or as center deems appropriate.

Outcome:

The goal of this position is to reach out to seniors and family caregivers and help them access services that meet their needs. Helping seniors connect to support services, which enable them to live independently and with dignity is the purpose of this position.
