The Washington County Solid Waste & Recycling Program and the City of Portland Master Recycler Program are offering an eight-week Master Recycling course.

Training will take place at the Washington Street Conference Center, 225 S. First Avenue in downtown Hillsboro, every Wednesday from September 9 through October 28, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. There are also two Saturday field trips on September 19 and October 17, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

To become a Master Recycler, participants must attend all sessions and then volunteer at least 30 hours, sharing what they learned with neighbors, coworkers and the community.

There are currently more than 1,350 Master Recyclers in the Metro area. They speak to local groups about thoughtful consumption and recycling, create educational resources and displays, staff booths at local events including farmers markets and neighborhood cleanups, and design and implement waste reduction plans at home and at work.

The course covers the latest information on sustainable consumption, composting and recycling, and includes tours, project development and presentations by more than 25 experts.

Tuition is $50 to cover course materials. Limited scholarships are available. Apply now through August 5 at www.masterrecycler.org.
