Washington County and the City of Beaverton Receive the 2014 John A. Sasso National Community Development Week Award

Washington County's Office of Community Development, in partnership with the City of Beaverton, has been awarded the National Community Development Association's 2014 John A. Sasso Award for outstanding community efforts in recognizing the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and the HOME Investment Partnerships programs.

The award stems from a variety of events which were held in April to commemorate National Community Development Week. The activities also helped to celebrate the 40th anniversary of CDBG and included proclamations by the CDBG and HOME Consortium partners of Washington County and allied non-profit agencies; project photo displays highlighting the benefits of these critical programs; and a day-long bus tour for elected officials and other community partners to spotlight projects around the County.

Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici participated in the bus tour and was joined by representatives from Senators Wyden and Merkley's offices, as well as other local officials. Congresswoman Bonamici spoke of the importance of both CDBG and HOME which provide grants to states, cities and counties to address affordable housing and other pressing community needs.

The Sasso Award reflects the impact of projects undertaken by Washington County departments, cities and non-profit housing and service providers and honors their dedicated service to persons with low and moderate income.
