Washington County’s Energy and Emergency Preparedness Fair Slated for October 25

The Annual Washington County Facilities & Parks Services Energy Fair is expanding this year to include an additional focus on Emergency Preparedness. On Thursday, October 25, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees will learn ways to conserve energy and be prepared for emergencies, both at home and at work.

The Energy and Emergency Preparedness Fair will be held at 221 South First Street in Hillsboro, on the first floor of the Washington County Parking Structure. Twenty-nine vendors will provide information on topics such as water consumption, lowering utility bills, insulation, solar power, electric vehicles, and incentives from the Energy Trust of Oregon. Washington County Emergency Management staff will be on hand to provide information on personal and family planning for disasters.

The public is also invited to attend an Open House of the County's Emergency Operations Center to be held at the Sheriff's Office Training Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the same day. The Sheriff's Office is located nearby at 215 SW Adams Avenue. Anyone who attends will be eligible for a drawing to win helpful emergency items including a complete "72 Hour Kit," a hand-held emergency radio, and a pet emergency kit.
