Rappleyea Named Washington County Counsel
The Washington County Board of Commissioners appointed Alan Rappleyea today to lead the Office of County Counsel.
Rappleyea, who has been the city attorney for Beaverton since 2003, will return to lead the county office he served in from 1996 to 2003. Before coming to Washington County, Rappleyea was both county counsel and planning director with Crook County, Oregon. He also worked in government, labor and land-use law with the Portland firm of McEwen Grisvold.
Rappleyea is a member of both the Washington and Oregon State Bar Associations and is a board member of the Oregon Bar's Government Law Section. Rappleyea earned his law degree from the University of Oregon in Eugene and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
"Alan is widely regarded as an outstanding lawyer representing the interests of local government and the communities we serve," said Andy Duyck, chair of the board of county commissioners. "Alan's experience and reputation in Oregon make him a superb choice as the head of our legal team. We are thrilled that he has agreed to this appointment."
The Office of County Counsel provides legal advice to the Washington County government and affiliated agencies. The office represents the Board of Commissioners, County Administrative Office, the Sheriff, Housing Authority, Fair Board, Enhanced Sheriff's Patrol District, Urban Road Maintenance District, Service District for Lighting, Cooperative Library Services and all county employees. The office is supported by an annual budget of $1.8 million and is staffed by 13.75 full-time-equivalent positions.
