Groundbreaking for new 9-1-1 emergency dispatch center

Members of the Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency (WCCCA) broke ground today on a project to replace the County’s current 9-1-1 dispatch center. Officials representing police, fire and emergency medical responders from across Washington County took part in a brief ceremony to launch construction of the new facility on NE Pinefarm Court in Hillsboro. Speakers included

• Washington County Board Chair Kathryn Harrington,
• Hillsboro City Councilor Beach Pace,
• Beaverton Mayor Denny Doyle,
• Forest Grove Fire Chief Michael Kinkade,
• Tigard Police Chief Kathy McAlpine and
• Senior Vice President of Architects Design Group, Susan Gantt.

According to WCCCA Executive Director Kelly Dutra, the new 9-1-1 dispatch center will allow the county’s emergency communications system to meet the growing demand for emergency services, support critical technology upgrades and withstand a major earthquake or other community disaster. “This new facility is a critical component of our overarching emergency telecommunications system. It has been very carefully designed to maintain continuity of operations in the midst of almost any threat, allowing first-responders to react quickly when the community needs us most.”

The estimated $26 million project is funded by property taxes as part of a 2016 voter-approved bond measure , with expected completion in the spring of 2021.
