May 2011 - Mental Health Awareness Month

Many people, both children and adults, experience some form of mental illness at some point in their lives or in the lives of their families. Many of those same residents will fail to seek treatment because of the stigma associated with diseases of the mind.

As public awareness helps promote acceptance and understanding, and decrease prejudice and stigma, the month of May has been designated Mental Health Awareness Month.

Therefore, the Department of Health and Human Services requests that the Washington County Board of Commissioners designate May 2011 as "Mental Health Awareness Month" in Washington County.

A proclamation was read and LifeWorks NW was recognized for their 50th anniversary of caring for the mental health and addiction needs of children, adolescents, families and adults in Washington County.
