Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month - 2018

Each year, our nation observes Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage during the month of May by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of those who have immigrated to the United States or whose ancestors originated from the continent of Asia and the numerous Pacific Islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.

In recognition of the month-long observance and the men and women from all walks of life that enrich our culture and traditions, the Washington County Board of Commissioners will issue a proclamation at their regular meeting May 1 at 10:00 a.m. The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea, Hyung-Jong Lee, is expected to attend the meeting.

The Board will also host a reception from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., honoring staff and community members of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. The event will include several guest speakers, including County employees, Board Chair Andy Duyck and special guest, Consul General Takashi Teraoka from the Consular Office of Japan in Portland.

The public is welcome to attend this celebration to be held at the Hillsboro Civic Center, 150 E. Main Street, Room C113. Light refreshments will be provided.
