Washington County to Host Annual Energy Preparedness Fair on September 25, 2013

Washington County Facilities and Parks Services will host the annual Energy Preparedness Fair scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held at 221 South First Street in Hillsboro, on the first floor of the Washington County Parking Structure. The public is invited to attend.

With a focus on renewable energy and energy conservation, Washington County continues to work toward sustainability benchmarks and practice good stewardship. The emphasis on preparedness ties in with being ready for energy emergencies, whether from power outages due to storms or from earthquake damage. County employees are especially urged to be "ready and resilient" at home so they can be part of the County's emergency response efforts in the event of a widespread community disaster.

Dozens of vendors will provide information on topics such as water conservation, ways to reduce utility bills, solar power, electric vehicles, home insulation and incentives from the Energy Trust of Oregon. Washington County Emergency Management staff will also be on hand to provide information on planning for disasters. Many of the vendors will provide items for a free door prize drawing.
