In April of 1974, President Richard Nixon created National Volunteer Week to spotlight the important role that volunteerism plays in our country and in our world. In keeping with that tradition and with gratitude for nearly 1300 volunteers who contribute countless acts of kindness, generosity and service to the citizens of Washington County, the Board of Commissioners has proclaimed April 12-18, 2015 as Washington County Volunteer Week.
In further alignment with the original presidential executive order to "recognize volunteers by observing the week with special ceremonies," volunteers will also be honored this month at the County's annual Volunteer Recognition Reception. Volunteers truly are the "Heart of Washington County."
