Black History Month 2019
In recognition of the many contributions that people of African descent have made throughout our nation’s history, the Board of Commissioners has issued a proclamation designating February 1-28 as Black History Month 2019.
The emphasis on Black Migrations for this year’s celebration provides the framework for many experiences related to hardship and oppression across America, along with opportunities for Black Americans to resist and overcome racial discrimination. We commend the many economic, political and social achievements by people of African descent and we renew our commitment to seek justice, equity and inclusion for those who continue to experience oppression and marginalization within our community.
