Sponsored by: Board of Commissioners
The Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) requests that the Washington County Board of Commissioners recognize the 2015 Summer Reading Program sponsored by WCCLS and its member libraries. The theme for 2015 is, "Every Hero has a Story." Public libraries in Washington County, like libraries across the country, host numerous programs, events, activities, lectures and opportunities throughout the summer. Programs are offered for children, teens and adults to engage, educate and entertain participants.Programs for children build pre-literacy and early-literacy skills and help children enter school ready to read and ready to learn. Programs for school-aged children and teens help them retain and build academic skills through the long summer months so they return to school without suffering a summer slide in academic retention. While the research behind public library reading programs is serious, librarians work very hard to make them fun for the participants in order to develop a life-long habit of reading.Adults, too, are encouraged to participate and to enjoy reading. WCCLS, with over 1.6 million books, movies, CDs, magazine, e-books and other materials has something to satisfy every curiosity.

The librarians of WCCLS believe that every person has the ability to be a reading Super Hero –just pick up a book and let your imagination soar! As a County of Readers, Washington County residents will be better informed, more engaged as citizens and better prepared to face the challenges of the future.
