On the national level, May 2014 will be proclaimed as a month to honor the contributions of our older adults as the roots from which our community grows, who bestow gifts of wisdom and insight upon younger generations, and strengthen the bonds between neighbors to create a better place to live.
This year the Administration on Aging chose the theme of, "Safe Today, Healthy Tomorrow." During May especially, the aging services network across the country will work on addressing the needs of this expanding segment of our population who are 60 and older.
The focus locally has been, and will continue to be, on veterans, family caregivers, accessible transportation, affordable housing, nutritious meals both on-site and home-delivered meals, keeping clients safe and independent in their homes for as long as possible, providing timely and dependable information and assistance, Medicare assistance, and one-on-one support and assistance to those in need of services.
Washington County Disability, Aging & Veteran Services works to educate our clients and families about the programs and services available so that they may make informed and educated decisions now and in the future.
Read the proclamation.
