Animal Shelter Appreciation Week
The Board of County Commissioners proclaimed November 2-8 as "Animal Shelter Appreciation Week" in Washington County.
In 1996, the Humane Society of the United States launched National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. Communities across the country now designate the first week of November to commemorate the invaluable role shelters play in their communities. Animal shelters, like the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter, are important to the quality of life of our community and communities around the nation.
People are often unaware of the importance of the shelter and our animal services to the community. Therefore, declaring the first week of November as "Animal Shelter Appreciation Week" will help improve that awareness.
