proclamation in 04-05-16 boc agenda
News article
Release date: 04/05/2016
Sponsored by: Board of Commissioners

Public Health has many roles in protecting people's lives and supporting and promoting community well-being. We demonstrate this through our day to day work: inspecting restaurants, drinking water systems and child care centers; providing services to women and children through our WIC program and our nurse home visiting programs; overseeing emergency medical transportation; working in partnership to reduce suicide, increase access to integrated care and reduce chronic disease; and investigate and contain foodborne outbreaks and other communicable diseases. We are also focusing on new and emerging issues such as wood smoke and other air toxins, emerging infectious diseases like Ebola and Zika, and preventing and mitigating adverse childhood experiences.

Partnerships are key to creating and sustaining a healthy community. We will honor staff and partners with the 14th Annual Public Health Recognition Awards today, April 5, at 11:30 in the Public Service Building cafeteria. A reception with fun and interactive public health tables will follow.
