Housing American Month - 2015

The Department of Housing Services and the Office of Community Development provide assistance to low and moderate income Washington County households through the administration of programs funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Land Use and Transportation provides current and long-rangeland use and transportation planning and maintenance support. Health and Human Services provides prevention, protection and support services and activities related to public health.

These departments recognize that affordable housing opportunities help break the cycle of poverty and improve the quality of life in our community, and that the provision and maintenance of secure, affordable, accessible housing for vulnerable and low-income residents are vital to the health, safety, and prosperity of our entire community. Housing affordability has become a matter of increasing urgency nationally and in the region, and it is important to raise awareness of this critical issue in our community.

Therefore, the Department of Housing Services, Office of Community Development, the Department of Land Use and Transportation, and the Department of Health and Human Services request that the Washington County Board of Commissioners proclaim October as Housing America month, in support of the national campaign to inform the public and decision makers of the critical need to address the nation's housing and community development concerns.

Read the proclamation.
