The Great American Smokeout - 2014

proclamation in 11-04-14
News article
Release date: 11/04/2014
Sponsored by: Board of Commissioners

The Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with the Beaverton Rebels with a Cause youth group, requests that the Washington County Board of Commissioners, serving as the Board of Health, join with many other organizations across the nation in declaring November 20, 2014, as the GREAT AMERICAN SMOKEOUT.

The American Cancer Society marks the annual Great American Smokeout each year to encourage smokers to use the day to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance to quit smoking that day. The Great American Smokeout is recognized around the nation as a day to encourage quitting tobacco—even for one day—and raise awareness around quitting tobacco as an important step toward a healthier life and reducing cancer risk. Tobacco use remains the single most preventable cause of disease and premature death in Washington County and the U.S.

Read the proclamation.
