Board of Commissioners issue proclamation for Black History Month 2021
In celebration of Black History Month and this year’s theme of “The Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity,” the Board of Commissioners have issued a proclamation designating February 1-28 as Black History Month 2021.
Following an original poem recited by County employee Janeen Smith, the proclamation was read into the record at the Board’s business meeting on February 2 by Glencoe High School honor student Liam Nelson. The proclamation highlights the unbreakable bonds within the Black Family despite challenges placed on those ties by persistent racial disparities in our society, while also recognizing and celebrating all identities of the Black Family structure.
